What is CBT?

CBT is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

CBT is a structured approach which is solution-focused. CBT works collaboratively with individuals to create a shared strategy to work together and create positive change. It is a problem-specific and goal-oriented therapy which relies on the individual’s active involvement throughout.

The therapy focuses on examining the relationship between the person’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours to help the individual develop strategies for managing problems and maintaining positive wellbeing. CBT often includes activities between therapy sessions to practice techniques and promote positive outcomes.

CBT has many key benefits:

What are the benefits of CBT?

It is learning based and helps individuals develop their own resources to manage life-struggles

It empowers individuals to master positive coping skills

It helps individuals develop a sense of control and accountability for their wellbeing

It facilitates growth and development through reflection and insight

It is a common treatment for anxiety and depression but is also useful for a wide range of mental and physical health problems

It's unlike some other talking treatments, CBT deals with your current problems, rather than focusing on issues from your past.

Greater Focus

CBT can help you address and revise habits affecting your productivity and emotional mindset.

More Confidence

It can help you develop more self confidence, feel happier and achieve more.

Take home

CBT will ecourage positive tools that you can take home from your sessions and move into daily practice.

What happens in an assessment?

During the assessment, the therapist will work with the client to set an achievable and realistic goal. This will allow for a formulation or treatment plan to be created which will assist the client in getting to their goal in a specified time. Also, during the assessment, any risk will be identified and managed.

Treatments include:

Challenging Negative thinking Behavioural Activation (changing the client's behaviour) Worry Monitoring Sleep Hygiene - Journaling, Relaxation, Breath/Breathing Plus much more

After Care:

After Care sessions will be conducted at weeks 12 and 24 post counselling by one of our trained team. This is an opportunity for us to check in and see how you are getting on with your new techniques.

Our safeguarding views

The services you receive are confidential and no one else in your life is made aware of anything you discuss. It is essential to this organisation that your confidentiality is respected. The therapist will only discuss how the work with you is going in their clinical supervision. This is done confidentially to ensure that you are receiving the best and most appropriate support. Respecting you and your confidentiality is critical, but protecting life remains an overriding principle. If it is felt that your life or the lives of others are at risk we will act to protect you (or others) and if that means breaching your confidentiality we are willing to do this. It is scarce that this happens and even if it does, we will keep you in the loop the whole way through.

What our Clients Say

“The counsellor was just fantastic, she provided the right amount of support and engagement to allow me to talk through the issues that were causing me a great deal of stress and anxiety. Couldn’t have asked for more in a Counsellor, excellent!”

“The regular sessions gave me a focus to measure my progress of the work I was doing in between. The counsellor validated my experiences and feelings, and I felt believed and understood. That was very important.”

“Having a trained ear listen in a non-judgmental way. It encouraged me to gain and keep a more positive outlook towards life’s difficulties. It was good to have a safe space to decompress and contributed towards more self-care.”

What our Counsellors Say

“Assessment process for me is identifying the presenting issues with the client, what they are struggling with day-to-day. Then I would be looking to set a specific goal with the client of what they want to achieve, followed by formulating a treatment plan for the client.”

It is important for me to work collaboratively with the client throughout the treatment process, regularly assessing progress and adjusting the treatment plan as needed. With this approach, I can help the client develop the skills and strategies necessary to overcome their presenting issues and achieve their goals.”

Ultimately, the counsellor’s goal is to empower their clients to become their own agents of change, equipped with the tools and confidence to navigate life’s challenges long after their treatment has ended, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and satisfying life.
